the quote from the movie " whichis the most universal human trait; fear or laziness" calls our attention to human potential, and how basic aspects of our humanity obscure us from reaching our utmost potential. After all, if as human beings we were free from fear or laziness, there would little to keep us from doing what we would really want to do and what we are capable of doing. As an example, most of the kids in our school who don't get good grades would probably be the head of the class; they have the intelligence and ability to get good grades, but they simple want to put their talents to other uses, and aren't particularly motivated to reach their academic potential. As for the second quote by Santyana, "Sanity is a madness put to good use; waking life is a dream controlled", I believe it is an allusion to the fact that there is a lot more to life than we may see; the idea that we can't really trust our senses to discern our reality makes our day to day life not much different from being in a dream, and since we are living "in a dream" the malable quality of such an existance puts us in a great position to make our lives what we want them to be.
